More than 1,100 delegates representing 68 of 76 county, district and state fairs and associated businesses celebrated the New Year by attending the 92nd annual Wisconsin Association of Fairs annual convention in Wisconsin Dells.
Our event kicked off at the Chula Vista Resort on Sunday with a “Carnival Night” sponsored by our carnival industry. More than 500 people attended this event that took place and proved to be successful for the sixth year in a row. Our carnival partners served fair food, gave out carnival prizes and mingled with our fair attendees. Special thanks to the following for sponsoring the event: A & A Attractions, A & C Wenzel Amazements, A & P Enterprise Shows, All Around Amusements, Calkins Midways, Christman Amusements, Earl’s Rides, K & M Amusements, Mark Lake Enterprises, Mr. Ed’s Magical Midways LLC, North American Midway Entertainment, Rainbow Valley Rides Inc, Spectrum Entertainment, and Tip Top Rides & Attractions. Special thanks to Chuck and Lynn Waterman from Calkins Midways for coordinating the event.
On Monday, the convention kicked-off with our Keynote Speaker, Gary Berg, who presented “Seeing Straight in a Cross-Eyed World” which examined how sight, sound, words, past experiences, and even laughter and music can all play major factors in how well we communicate with each other. The basic understanding helps people become more patient and accepting of other people’s viewpoints and ideas, and helps groups work together more effectively.

Convention attendees wore tailgating attire on the opening day to celebrate convention theme as they participated in Veggie Races.
Throughout the week representatives attended a variety of high-impact workshops including Advertising on a Small Budget, Food Safety and Camping, Ag Adventure Areas, Social Media and County Fair Recycling.

The convention culminated with the awards Banquet and the crowning of the 2015 Wisconsin Fairest of the Fairs on Wednesday night. Awards were given for the V.I.P. Awards, Outstanding Fair Person Awards, Hall of Fame Awards, and the Associate Member Hall of Fame Awards. Many deserving people were awarded, including the 2014 Fairest of the Fair Kaitlyn Riley of the Crawford County Fair before handing the position off to Deanna Schlies from the Brown County Fair. She will spend the next year serving as the ambassador for Wisconsin’s 76 county, district and state fairs and the official hostess for the 2015 Wisconsin State Fair, August 6-16. While serving as Wisconsin’s Fairest of the Fairs, Schlies will make appearances, conduct promotions, work with media and travel to fairs to promote the educational, social and economic importance of Wisconsin’s Fair Industry.
Thank you to all of our attendees and especially to all of our sponsors for making another successful year possible! Join us next year, January 10-13, 2016, for our 93rd annual convention at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells.

The Wisconsin Association of Fairs recognized Bob Williams for his lifetime commitment to the fair industry and was presented a special award. He has been a cheerleader for youth, education, and agriculture for many years. In any organization you have those special volunteers who may not fall into a specific awards category, yet they are very deserving of recognition. Because of Bob’s passion and commitment to the Fair Industry we are all beneficiaries of the knowledge, wisdom and leadership presented at district, state and national meetings and conventions. He has inspired all of us to be the best we can be in presenting and preserving our industry in our ever changing society. Bob has set the standard for service and dedication to a lifetime commitment that is second to none. Because of this, the award will also be the name of the award in the future. Bob truly something special from WI, his license plate says so (SSFW).
